This book deals with the final chapter in the history of Agro-Joint, an organization created by the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC), which operated in the USSR from 1924 to 1938. Among a large number of “counterrevolutionaries” – the term en vogue during the Great Purges of 1937-38 – the workers of Agro-Joint are one of the lesser-known groups that were suppressed. With the opening of KGB archives in the former Soviet Union, additional aspects of the Agro-Joint venture have begun to emerge in chilling detail.

Famous Polish writer Bruno Schulz (1892-1942), who lived all his life in Drohobych and died there in the hands of Nazis during the Shoah, was an outstanding epistolary master. His letters – examples of high prose of magical realism – often became basis for his future stories. Book of Letters consists of all intact letters to friends, colleagues, and partners, which allows to understand his personal and artistic endeavors, and his creative pursuits. This correspondence was collected by outstanding Polish poet, essayist, and cultural worker Jerzy Fitsovski (1924-2006) for more than 60 years.
